Generic Ethionamide
Common Use
This anti-tuberculosis medication has a bacteriostatic effect, suppressing bacterial protein synthesis. It inhibits the growth and spread of tuberculosis mycobacteria both inside and outside cells. Ethionamide also enhances phagocytosis at tuberculosis inflammation sites, aiding resolution. It may also be used to treat leprosy (Hansen's disease).
Dosage and Directions
Your doctor will determine the correct dose based on your condition, age, and weight. Take with a full glass of water, with or without food. Taking Ethionamide with food may help prevent stomach upset. Continue treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms disappear, to ensure complete eradication of infection. Only stop taking this medication under medical supervision.

- Disclose any allergies or medical conditions.
- Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
