Common Use

Principen, the main component of which is ampicillin, belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria in the body and is commonly prescribed to treat various infections, including:

• Tonsillitis
• Bronchitis
• Pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Gonorrhea

Note: Principen is not effective against colds or flu.

Dosage and Direction

This medication is available in pill or liquid form. The typical starting dosage is 250–500 mg, taken at evenly spaced intervals.

• Swallow pills whole, do not chew or crush them.
• Take on an empty stomach (30 minutes before or 2 hours after meals).
