Generic Clindamycin ( Clindamycin )
Common Use
Clindamycin works against sensitive bacteria by stopping their essential protein production after binding to bacterial ribosomes. This medication has similar properties to Lincomycin.
Lincosamides (including clindamycin) are commonly prescribed for:
- Staphylococcal and streptococcal infections
- Protozoal diseases including malaria
- Infections of the respiratory system
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Abdominal organ infections
Note: Clindamycin does not treat meningitis.
Dosage and Directions
- Take orally four times daily
- Can be taken with or without food
- Always take with a full glass of water
- Maintain evenly spaced intervals between doses
Precautions
Clindamycin should only be used for serious bacterial infections due to risk of pseudomembranous colitis - a potentially fatal intestinal condition that may occur during or weeks after treatment.
Warning signs requiring immediate medical attention:
- Persistent diarrhea
- Abdominal pain or cramping

Do not use anti-diarrhea medications if these symptoms occur.
