Common Use

Lamisil is an anti-fungal antibiotic used to treat tinea versicolor, a fungal infection that causes brown, tan, or white spots on the trunk of the body. It is also effective against other fungal infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Lamisil works by killing sensitive fungi by interfering with the formation of the fungal cell membrane.

Dosage and Direction

Take Lamisil orally with a full glass of water. Swallow it without chewing. The treatment typically lasts for 6 to 12 weeks. The recommended dose varies depending on the type of infection:

• For onychomycosis: Adults and teenagers: 250 mg once a day for 6 to 12 weeks. Use in children only after doctor's permission.
• For tinea corporis: Adults and teenagers: 250 mg once a day for 2 to 4 weeks. Use in children only after doctor's permission.
• For tinea cruris (ringworm of the groin; jock itch): Adults and teenagers: 250 mg once a day for 2 to 4 weeks. Use in children only after doctor's permission.
• For tinea pedis: Adults and teenagers: 250 mg once a day for 2 to 6 weeks. Use in children only after doctor's permission.

Precautions

Before using Lamisil, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have a history of blood disorders, severe liver disease, or lupus. Avoid driving while taking this medication as it may cause dizziness or decreased alertness. Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it may cause a fast heartbeat and skin flushing. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths, and use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Possible Side Effects

Less serious side effects may include:

• Headache, tiredness, or cold symptoms like a runny or stuffy nose and sore throat.
• Mild skin rash, itching, or an unusual taste in the mouth.
• Decreased taste sensation.

If you experience any side effects, stop using Lamisil and consult your doctor immediately.

Drug Interactions

Lamisil may interact with the following medications:

• Cyclosporine
• Metoprolol
• Nortriptyline
• Warfarin

Interactions between medications do not always require stopping one of them. Consult your doctor to manage potential interactions effectively.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take double or extra doses.

Overdose

Symptoms of Lamisil overdose may include dizziness, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, or increased urination. If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.

Storage

Store Lamisil at room temperature between 59-77°F (15-25°C), away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medication after the expiration date.
